Report from The North Devon Journal

The year 2000 is being commemorated by the Royal Air Force with a Millenium Scroll, which arrived in Barnstaple as part of a European tour.

Troops from RAF bases countrywide are taking turns to transport the scroll, until it finally reaches an overseas location. The RAF men have used a variety of ways to transport the scroll including a deep sea dive. It has been to Kosovo and was signed by a representative stationed with the troops overseas. It has also been parachuted onto Salisbury Plain.

The Minehead branch marched the scroll down Barnstaple High Street to Heanton Court, where it was presented to 722 Squadron, who marched it along the old railway line to Chivenor. From Chivenor, 22 Squadron took the scroll by helicopter to Bude. The tour should be completed by September to coincide with RAF Wings Week.
