722 Squadron Sponsored Cycle

Report by AWO Hoole

Fourteen cadets and two staff members took part in this year's sponsored cycle between Chivenor and Torrington. The event is the only fund-raising event 722 Squadron does purely for its own funds.

The participants set off from Chivenor at about 10am, cycling towards Barnstaple along the Tarka Trail and on to Bideford via Fremington and Instow. The cadets arrived in groups of twos and threes at Bideford Railway station, where they formed one big group for the final leg to Torrington.

The cyclists arrived at Torrington at about midday, where they took their lunch-break. After a group photo, the group set off on the return journey, passing through the same checkpoints until they reached Barnstaple. Those from Barnstaple and Landkey left the group at this point, completing the cycle by riding home, while the rest cycled back to Chivenor to complete the 60km ride.

The cycle is hoped to raise several hundred pounds for the Squadron.
