RAFA Wings Appeal

Report by CWO Hoole

Every September, like many Squadrons around the country, we assist the RAFA (Royal Air Force Association) with their annual "Wings" appeal. The collection takes place during September, in conjuction with the commemoration of the Battle of Britain.

The collecting starts on a Saturday morning, when the cadets spread out along the length of Braunton High street with collection tins, asking for donations. The Saturday collection is done in either two or three shifts, depending on attendance, between 9am and 2pm.

Further to this collection, the cadets then do door-to-door collections in the evenings from Monday to Friday. These collections last approximately 2 hours a night, and over the week, the majority of the village is covered.

The Squadron usually manages to collect about £600 for the appeal each year.
