Battle of Britain Parade, Exeter

Report by CWO Hoole
Like most Wings around the country, Devon Wing holds a Battle of Britain memorial parade. For Devon Wing, this involves all of the Squadrons in the Wing travelling to Exeter, where Wing HQ is situated. Approximately two hundred cadet usually turn up in full uniform for the parade, which begins after a short commemorative service in the Southernhay United Reformed Church.

The parade forms up outside the church, split into three flights, with a band at the front. The parade marches through Exeter High Street, including a march-past of the Lord Lieutenant of the County, towards Exeter Cathedral. Upon reaching the cathedral, the parade halts around the Cenitaph, where several wreaths are laid. After a few prayers have been said and The Last Post played by lone bugle, the parade is dismissed.
